The vision for Roll was to build a hub for “personal” Social Tokens. The product would allow social influencers, that we called Creators, to mint branded crypto currencies to monetize their social equity by building a micro-economy around their community.
The product vision was to build PayPal for crypto currencies with an e-commerce section to redeem cryptocurrencies for goods and services. The idea was tested and started to get traction with potential users. We needed to validate the idea as quickly as possible.
Creators are not able to fully monetize their clout on social networks. Furthermore, creators feel that their fans (audience) is being held captive by social platforms; they can’t just pick up and move to a different service.
The initial idea was to mint a crypto currency for each creator and give them the tools to engage and grow a micro-economy around their online communities. The Fancoin system would allow creators to engage with their audience in the digital world and IRL, in real life by rewarding them with the creator's own social tokens. Once enough tokens have been earned, they can be traded for goods and services.
Social media creators with over 10K followers were the primary persona. The secondary persona would be the fans. In order for the idea to work, two things needed to happen.
After testing an idea called Twirl, to engage users with a trivia game, the team changed direction and focused on validating the vision for Roll—a Social Currency management system and a light e-commerce system.
Build your own micro-economy by creating your Social Tokens, incentivize your followers to earn your tokens and offer goods or services to be redeemed with your tokens.
With the new designs, users that fell in the Creator group were tested first. The goal was to understand what the users expected from the platform and what their desires were. The same was done with those Creator's fans/followers. Oscar modified the user personas from this research.
There was a need for a design system to quickly prototype an experience and test with users. Oscar put together a moodboard with the colors used in the logo and compliment them with the system colors used in the interface.
Oscar created designs for key moments in the experience to test against the users, to validate the direction and get insights on the designs.
The goal of the MVP was to create a simple CMS for Creators to manage their currency and a simple interface for the fan experience that would allow P2P dynamics and a hint of e-commerce. The goal for fans were to get (earn) the Social Money, spend it on exclusive offers by Creators or potentially exchange the currency.
The goal for fans is to get closer to the Creator and Social Tokens opens up an opportunity for interactions to happen. Fans can earn tokens by engaging on the creator's social channels. Fans can then spend tokens on exclusive offers by Creators or potentially exchange the tokens for other currencies.
